Introduction to K-Maps

What is a K-Map?

Whenever we produce a product, that product will pass through various stages.

For example, if we use the domestic example of a cup of tea, the stages could be collect water, heat water, brew tea etc.

More practically, if we use an industrial product, such as aluminium can body stock, the product would pass through stages such as grain refinement, degassing, etc.

Whatever our product, for each stage there will be various attributes or properties which can be measured. (E.g. the cup of tea has attributes such as water temperature, strength of tea, flavour, etc)

Various stages can have an affect on the different attributes. For example, heating water (stage) will have an affect on the flavour and strength (attributes) of the cup oftea.

The K-Map is a collection of linked knowledge on the stages and their effect on the various product attributes.
